A useful way to practice spotting (hitting musical beats with certain cues on the screen) as well as improve at matching music to action is by re-scoring scenes from movies. This mockup of a scene from Brave was a lot of fun and was part of an assignment in my Film Scoring class at the University of Utah in which we’d choose a scene from a different film genre each week to re-score.
